ENDGAME CHALLENGE
A quite small but strong tournament was held in the lichess team last Monday, 12th April - with all games picking up the famous endgame position below (and wrestling with its many interesting complexities - in just 5 minutes + 3 sec increments!)
It was a triumph for Steve Hodge - but also for young Benjie Pitel - but I think all enjoyed it . Analysis of the position below - but all our effort can be seen via: https://lichess.org/tournament/RxeZbIuK
Czech Grandmaster Salomon Flohr (1908-1983) was one of the best players in the world from the 1930s to the mid-1950s. He was a quiet, positional player, who was generally happy with a draw against the very best opponents. He was a renowned endgame player - and this endgame is analysed in many of the best texts on rook endgames (including Levenfish and Smyslov in 'Rook Endings', -whose analysis is used here unless indicated)
